The Oscar picks for 2014 Best Supporting Actress recognize those not-so-leading ladies who despite not headlining their respective 2013 movies, still gave highly notable performances. For her stellar work in "12 Years a Slave," Lupita Nyong'o, took home this Academy Award when the Oscars were handed out on March 2, 2014.
If the 2014 Academy Awards followed the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, then one could have surmised that Jennifer Lawrence, who won Best Supporting Actress at the 2014 Globes would take home the prize at the 2014 Oscars. Lawrence, who won Best Actress in 2013 for her work on "Silver Linings Playbook," was a favorite for this award with her role as Rosalyn Rosenfeld in "American Hustle."
Julia Roberts, for "August: Osage County," Sally Hawkins, for "Blue Jasmine," and June Squibb, for "Nebraska," all looked to pull the upset come Oscar Sunday but it was all Nyong'o.
