Like other categories at the 2014 Oscars, this category approached with a few favorites to take home the Best Actress honor. Cate Blanchett, who won the 2014 Golden Globe for Best Actress - Drama, was the front-runner for her portrayal of Jeanette "Jasmine" Francis in the Woody Allen film "Blue Jasmine." But hot on her tails was Amy Adams, who took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress - Comedy or Musical for her role in "American Hustle."
Blanchett had some other good competition, mainly from Sandra Bullock, who stole the show in the Best Picture front-runner "Gravity," and Judi Dench, for her work in "Philomena."
